Four Prong Round Diamond Engagement Ring
About This Design
This version of Solitaire Round is the modern minimalist’s take on a classic. A round brilliant-cut diamond sits at the center, held by just four prongs, one at each of the four compass points around the stone. The four-prong configuration reveals more of the diamond than a traditional six-prong setting, giving the stone a more open, exposed feel and allowing light to enter from a wider range of angles.
The shank carries the design’s contemporary character. The band tapers from a noticeably wider profile at the shoulders down to a slim, refined width at the back of the finger, a knife-edge silhouette that makes the center stone appear larger and gives the ring a sense of motion. Beneath the diamond, the basket structure stays minimal, with the prongs flowing directly into the shank rather than sitting on a decorative support.
Every element of the design has been pared back to its essentials. There’s no pavé, no halo, no decorative basket, no surface ornamentation, just clean architecture and one beautiful stone. For someone whose taste runs minimalist and modern, this is the engagement ring silhouette to consider.

Pricing & Timeline
Because every piece is handcrafted to your specifications, pricing depends on your chosen diamond, metal, and design details. Your consultation will include a clear, itemized quote before you commit.
Production typically takes 4 to 6 weeks after final approval.
A note on sizing: pricing may also vary with ring size, as gold weight changes accordingly. For designs with side stones, the total number of stones and total carat weight may vary based on size. Please also note that, depending on the style, some rings cannot be resized after they’re made. Your designer will walk you through this before the design is finalized.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a four-prong setting secure enough for an engagement ring? Yes. Four-prong settings have been used for round diamonds for over a century and remain a standard configuration. They provide reliable security for daily wear, with the trade-off that they reveal slightly more of the diamond’s edges than a six-prong setting. If maximum security is the priority, your designer can build the same silhouette with six prongs instead.
What is a knife-edge band? A knife-edge band is a shank that tapers from wider at the shoulders to slimmer at the back of the finger, often with a slight ridge along the top edge of the metal. The tapered profile creates a sense of refinement and makes the center stone appear more prominent. It’s a more contemporary band shape than a uniform-width band.
Will the band feel comfortable despite the tapered shape? Yes. The band is polished and finished smoothly throughout, and the taper is calibrated for daily wear. The slimmer back of the band actually sits more comfortably against the finger than a thicker, uniform band for most people.
Do you offer lab-grown diamonds? Yes, we work with both lab-grown and natural diamonds. Your designer can walk you through the differences in price, sourcing, and certification to help you choose what fits your priorities.
How long does it take to make Solitaire Round? Typically 4 to 6 weeks from final design approval to delivery.
